On this date in History .... June 8, 1984:
The movie “Ghostbusters” is
released.
The story was written for John Belushi who died in 1982. It was then “rewritten
extensively to accommodate the unique talents of Bill Murray”. With a huge $30 million production budget, it
became the 2nd highest grossing movie with $229 million, being
barely beat out by “Beverly Hills Cop” which grossed $235 million.
Ray Parker Jr’s theme song (click HERE for video) stayed at #1 for 3
weeks and gave birth to catchphrases of “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!” and “Who
you gonna call?”
